A Day in the Life of an Intern – Derek Howe

“Wow. These six weeks have gone by really fast at Hatch Staffing. Let me start at the beginning.

I was having difficulty finding an internship for my academic minor which I thought would give me experience relevant to my intended career path until I was referred to Hatch Staffing. Going in, I had no idea what to expect. I was told that the internship would be work-intensive and that I would not be brewing coffee for the senior staff.

I don’t think I could be more pleasantly surprised how the internship has turned out so far. The work has been challenging and you have to learn on your feet. As early as the second week, the Hatch ELITE are reviewing resumes, conducting phone screens and scheduling interviews. Every week – if not every day – there are more job duties to learn and stay on top of. It’s hard but very rewarding.

If I made that sound daunting, allow me to assure you, Hatch isn’t all about work work work. There are regular picnics, outings, parties, guest speakers and miscellaneous event days that everyone can participate in to shake up the job a little bit. The job never feels stagnant or boring.

And I haven’t even talked about the senior staff yet. They’re great. Every one of them is open to questions and willing to help the ELITE at a moment’s notice. The senior staff also enjoy teaching the Hatch ELITE different aspects of the job that weren’t covered in training. (And none of them have sent me on coffee errands.) The president of Hatch is involved in the day-to-day operations of the company and even routinely trains the Hatch ELITE. She cares about and is involved with the employees.

What I learned in school, I can apply on the job at Hatch. I feel like what I’m learning at Hatch can also be put to good use in my professional career. All in all, I’m enjoying my time here as well as all the challenges that the job brings. I hope that the rest of the summer goes as well as the first six weeks.”

A Day in the Life of an Intern – Kate Caputa

When you hear the word “Internship” what thoughts come to mind? When I originally thought about doing an internship, I was a little worried.  I always thought of internships as running around doing useless errands, tedious work, or just constantly shadowing others while they do the work.  The HatchELITE program has shown me the value of an internship!  Every single day we are doing hands on work, learning, and growing with the team and as individuals.  We are not just considered ‘interns’ here at hatch, instead, we are part of the team.  We participate in morning meetings, interviews, meet and greets, and much more!

Specifically, the one thing that I want to talk about in this blog is how amazing the atmosphere here at Hatch is. Hatch has a special way of connecting with their internal staff, clients, and candidates.  They really take the extra mile in order to make others feel valued.  Being in HatchELITE program has been an honor so far.  All the staff at Hatch take extra time out of there day to make us feel like part of the team.  We have training on a regular basis where we learn about basic skills such as professionalism, time management, and much more!  Every week we have guest speakers that also teach us and help us grow.  I specifically think that I have learned more about being in the real world and work during these first three weeks than I did all of college.  We are out there doing the same things as the rest like cold calling, conducting interviews, and filling orders!  This week I have already had three interviews and more scheduled!  I am excited to see that number grow as the weeks go on!

I know that I still have much more to learn and I can NOT wait to keep growing as an individual and young professional! I have set many goals so far in the HatchELITE program and I am looking forward to achieving them.  Hatch has really showed me that you can really do anything if you put your mind and heart into it!  I’m excited to see what the rest of the summer has in store!

Wow, these first two weeks went quite quick and I am fathomed by how much I have already been able to learn. What impresses me the most about my entrance to the HatchELITE program is how inviting of an environment it is. The whole organization is team oriented. Everyone that walks into their first day of work regardless of where it is or who it is for is going to be nervous and you cannot tell me otherwise. I would also think that those walking into their first internship might feel it a little more than most as they are placing the foundation to their professional careers. I cannot tell you enough how easy Hatch made this for us interns. Getting to know all the internal staff makes the environment much easier to walk into every morning. It assists in being more willing to approach anyone with questions which allows for a more rapid learning experience. You are never out of the loop at hatch. You are in every team meeting that occurs daily and they truly value your input. Enough with that let’s get down to the real stuff, what is it that us interns are actually doing? Well, it’s more than picking up coffee for the office that’s for sure. The first week we went through basic training about Hatch, the industry, how it works, and how we are going to play an integral role within the organization. The training was never redundant or boring. We had specific training with various members from upper management. The president of Hatch has even taken time on 3 occasions to train us on certain subjects. How often do interns get to say they learn and have direct contact with the president of the company each and every day? Let me tell you-not often. By learning from numerous employees our training becomes well rounded and diverse, it’s been enlightening. Every Wednesday we get to listen to a guest speaker for around an hour. These speakers are always talented and accomplished individuals that are invested in helping others grow. It’s imperative to learn from those who have succeeded before you. This week, we have been learning how to organize resumes, phone screen candidates, and seek to employ those individuals. It is a great feeling leaving work every night knowing that you have helped someone else. Finally, every Friday three internal employees create a panel and sit in to listen and answer any questions that we may have on the process of our recruiting journeyit is fast paced! These are quite insightful. All I can say for the first two weeks is ‘wow’! It is going to be an exciting summer.

Hatch practices wellness!

Promoting happy and healthy employees is an important focus here at Hatch! We provide employees with the option to get involved in fitness programs and challenges that generate physical activity and health education, employee bonding, and of course some friendly office competition. Below are a few of the wellness initiatives Hatch team members have participated in this year:

Seven week wellness challenge that included weekly fitness classes along with a MyZone challenge. For those of you who are unfamiliar to MyZone, it is a technological system that monitors individual physical activity and results. Hatch participants wore the MyZone bands during any/all physical activity including during weekly fitness classes of either spin, cardio combat or tabata style strength training. A big congratulations to Ken who came out strong as a determined MyZone competitor in his first challenge! The goal of the challenge was to see overall improvements in strength and body composition through regular physical activity.

Healthy eating in the office. We all know it’s hard to fight that temptation when it’s a fellow coworker’s birthday and  a double chocolate cake is being devoured in the kitchen, but Hatch’s goal is to eat healthy food. Employees are encouraged to bring healthy snack options and share their favorite healthy recipes. Making the right choices that sustainably fuel our bodies is our motivation and having a little fun along the way is always encouraged.

I’m going long this week because there may be some of you that have been preparing for months for this one!  On Sunday, October 6th, runners will leave Grafton High School for Milwaukee’s Lakefront Marathon.  This 26.2 mile trek is not one for those faint of heart.  If you are running then you know the work and the time that is spent getting ready for the event.  You have been protecting yourself from injury to ensure you are in peak physical condition for the run.  You have been making sure to get your one long run in a week to make sure that you are trained and ready to make it all the way to Milwaukee.  Maybe you are someone that completed the Brewer’s Mini Marathon last week.  Do you have enough left in you to be able to run the full marathon?  You can still register for this one!  Start time is 7:30AM and the cost to register is $75.  So lace up your shoes, or make your signs to cheer on the runners as they embark on their adventure.

Music lovers, this weekend is a good one for concerts!! Our featured artist is the Moody Blues who will be at the Riverside Theater tonight!! This band is near and dear to my heart! My Mom from when I was 8-11 years old when we would drive anywhere in her buick…the Moody Blues were on. Does anyone remember what an eight-track is? Well that is what they had in cars back then, we would sign wherever we would go! My favorite song from them is “Question” just an amazingly written song lyrically and musically. They have long been on of rocks best bands, if you havent seen them live check them out!! They have stuck with me for my whole life, thanks Mom to introducing me to one of my favorite songs of all time and one of my favorite memories of all time!!

KT Tunstall is coming to Pabst Theater this Friday as well, I had a friend of mine that loves her and saw her twice. She said she is awesome! If you get a chance listen to her song “other side of the world” its one of her best. Should be a great show! Enjoy!

Have a great weekend Music lovers and check back next week!
